Statistics for Non-Science Majors

Statistics STAT 2263 Three (3) credit hours

This is an introductory statistics course for students already enrolled or planning to enrol into various programs such as Kinesiology, Education, Nursing, Business/Management, Psychology, Sociology, Geography, Environmental Studies, and other Humanities and Social Sciences.

Course topics include Types of Statistical Data; Populations vs. Samples; Descriptive vs. Inferential Statistics; Uncertainty and Probability; Discrete and Continuous Probability Distributions; Sampling Distributions and the Central Limit Theorem; Confidence Intervals; Hypothesis Testing with Numerical and Categorical Data; Linear Regression; ANOVA.

Taking this course meets the statistics course credit requirement for a variety of university programs, including Education, Nursing, Business/Management, Psychology, Sociology, Geography, Environmental Studies, and other Humanities and Social Sciences. The course is comprised of mini-lectures, comprehension quizzes, chapter homework assignments, midterm quizzes, and a final project. The lectures are easy to follow and provide many real-world applications. The software package Minitab will be used to run various statistical tests. Minitab is provided free of charge to students through UNB Virtual Lab. There is also no textbook required to purchase.

Prerequisite: High School Grade 11 Mathematics or an equivalent.

Students have six months from the registration date to complete the course. All course exams and/or assignments must be completed by the designated end date.
