This course provides an overview of the concept of ‘corporate social responsibility’ (CSR), focusing on the economic, social and environmental impacts of business and the resulting challenges faced by sport and recreational organizations and their managers. Attention is given to the ever-increasing interplay between sport institutions and large corporations as well as non-governmental organizations (NGOs) for the delivery of CSR-related programs. The course is designed to deepen students' understanding of CSR by taking a critical look at its origins and theoretical approaches.
This is an introductory, thought-provoking, and inspiring class that encourages students to make connections among the topics covered in each of the three thematic units. There are a wide variety of study resources available from written and audio-visual case studies to research articles from the most influential academic outlets in the field. Students can explore their learning style and choose which tools (as well as "ways of thinking") best suit them. The course has the same content as the face-to-face option but can also accommodate each student’s schedule and does not require travel to campus.
