The Ballistics and Mechanical Testing Lab supports a number of researchers and research areas. Currently, three researchers are involved in the Lab's work.
Dr. Aranas is the Director of the Alloy Design and Materials Testing Research Laboratory (AD-MTRL) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of New Brunswick. The research laboratory aims to design and develop the next generation and energy-efficient advanced high-strength materials with a positive impact on the environment. His research includes understanding the mechanical properties and deformation behavior of metallic materials.
Dr. Aranas’s research interests include:
Dr. Lloyd’s current research focus includes explosive and impact loads on structures, specifically concerning reinforced concrete and fibre reinforced polymers. His research is conducted experimentally and using analytical tools including multi-physics simulations and simplified single and multi-degree-of-freedom dynamic analysis.
Dr. Lloyd’s research interests include:
Dr. Saha’s research and innovation focus is tied with industry needs. Over the past 15 years, his work has been oriented to technology development and integration with industries, primarily focusing on clean transportation infrastructure (rail and aviation), high-speed ballistic threat and shock loading mitigation, superior wear-resistant materials development for industrial manufacturing, oil and gas and renewable energy exploration.
Under his leadership, UNB’s Nanocomposites and Mechanics Laboratory has challenged the current metal-based additive manufacturing approach with nanostructured cermet (ceramic-metallic) and biomass derived composite materials. The lab’s work covers the design, synthesis, additive manufacturing, testing and characterization, field trial and recycle of materials, using state-of-the-art high-pressure cold spray and other technologies to give rise to lightweight, high-strength, high-impact-resistant 3D coatings and freeform component development with extended operational lifetimes.
