Spanish Beginners Level 1

¡Bienvenidos!

Step into this exciting adventure where you will discover the richness of Spanish through interactive games and conversational classes that will help you hone your language skills.

Imagine turning your dream vacation to Punta Cana into reality and being able to communicate with the locals with ease while drinking a piña colada on the lovely island beaches. This may feel like an illusion now, but with this class, you will slowly see it come to life.

At the end of this course, you will be able to introduce yourself, ask for directions, and engage in simple conversations for common situations such as ordering food, shopping, and traveling.

Topics

  • Learn the alphabet, phonics, and definite and indefinite articles (includes letter sounds, closed and open syllables, and syllables with blends)
  • Learn how to say hello, goodbye, and other common expressions which are essential for everyday speech
  • Introduce yourself and others in real-life scenarios
  • Formulate basic questions and responses about weather conditions, shopping prices, and leisure activities
  • Understand basic sentence structure and an understanding of noun-gender agreement, as well as present tense irregular and regular verbs which are crucial for navigating travel scenarios
  • Learn everyday vocabulary to hold simple dialogues (includes vocabulary related to transportation, family, daily routines, and culture)
  • Learn common weather and season phrases, discuss activities and clothing appropriate for each season, express likes and dislikes
  • Understand key personal and possessive pronouns, basic conjunctions, common adjectives and adverbs, and question words will be useful when describing a typical day, sharing personal information, and describing the characteristics of objects

No textbooks are required. Simply bring a notebook, pencil, and a warm, cheerful smile to the classroom. Carla is more than happy to welcome you.

About the instructor

Carla was born and raised in the Dominican Republic. Spanish is her mother language, but she is also fluent in English and French. She is a current learner at UNB herself, but also has experience teaching in her home country.

She believes in the power of learning in a fun and creative way, and she is excited to bring this engaging approach to her class. Carla is passionate about fitness and reciprocal learning and is excited to grow with you.
