Constantine Passaris named Onassis Foundation Fellow

Constantine Passaris Constantine Passaris, professor of economics at UNB's Fredericton campus, was conferred the prestigious academic title of Onassis Foundation Fellow in October 2013 for his contributions to international economic policy.

Since coming to UNB in the early 70's, Passaris has served on many committees and won several awards during his long tenure on campus, including the Allan P. Stuart Award for Excellence in Teaching, UNB, 2003; the Fredericton Business Ambassador, City of Fredericton, 2005; the New Brunswick Ambassador, Province of New Brunswick, 2010; and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubliee Medal, 2012.

In 1995, the Greek organization, Onassis Foundation, established an annual program of grants and scholarships for research, study and art exclusively for international members of national academies, university professors, as well as distinguished artists.

The program aims at promoting Greek language, history and culture abroad. On average, 35 scholarships are awarded annually. During the 17 years of the program's operation (1995 - 2013), 745 research grants and educational scholarships have been awarded, amounting to $10,552,722.
