2013 Fall Convocation

Fall Convocation UNBSJUNB celebrated the accomplishments of 587 graduates as they walked across the stage at its fall convocation ceremonies in Fredericton and Saint John, Oct. 24 and 25. The university’s top honour, the Governor General’s Gold Medal, went to UNB Fredericton graduate Dr. Erik Scheme. The award was created in 1872 to encourage academic excellence across the nation. Over the years, the Governor General’s Academic medals have become the most prestigious award students in Canadian schools can receive.

Dr. John Johnson was awarded a Dr. Allan P. Stuart Memorial Award for Excellence in Teaching during UNB Saint John’s ceremony. The award recognizes teaching excellence on the part of some of the many good teachers of whom this university is very proud.

National Chief Shawn Atleo, the Right Honourable Paul Martin and Jane Bertrand received honorary degrees.

The university also installed Allison McCain, a noted business leader, active alumnus and volunteer and honorary degree recipient, as its sixth modern day Chancellor.
