Faculty: Faculty of Science, Applied Science, and Engineering
Degree(s): Bachelor of Science
Campus: Saint John
The Department of Biological Sciences in the Faculty of Science, Applied Science and Engineering is the home of our chemistry faculty in Saint John and is located on the top floor of William F. Ganong Hall.
Chemistry is the study of atoms, molecules and their interactions.
It is often described as the central science because studies in biology, geology and physics examine the gross behaviour of materials which reflects what is occurring at the molecular level.
Our principle teaching strategy is to work with small groups of students to maximize personal experience and optimize skills development.
We foster independent problem-solving and critical thinking coupled with excellence in communication which are the corner stones of scientific investigation.
Chemistry faculty in Saint John offer the first year of the chemistry programs offered on the Fredericton campus. They also offer upper-level courses that lead to a chemistry minor and specialized offerings designed to support other programs such as biology, engineering and arts.
Opportunities for upper-level independent studies or honour projects are interdisciplinary in nature due to the strong collaborations with other departments.
A Minor program is offered for students in other departments within and outside of the Faculty of Science, Applied Science and Engineering who are interested in a coherent package of chemistry courses.
