Learning the French language provides a wealth of opportunities for your future career and ignites a passion for culture, creativity, and expression. The Department of French welcomes students who wish to learn and perfect the language as well as pursue their studies in literature and linguistics.

Why French at UNB?

We offer a range of courses in French Canadian literature, cinema, and culture, with an emphasis on Acadian and Québécois writers, as well as other Francophone literatures (i.e. France, Belgium, etc.).

Our linguistics courses explore the various expressions across French Canada. We also emphasize the phenomenon of human communication and how language shapes experience.

Hands-on learning

  • In Canada’s only officially bilingual province, you will enjoy work and volunteer opportunities in many sectors, i.e. francophone schools, libraries, community centres, health programs, etc.
