Mathematics and Statistics Option
Mathematics and Statistics Major
A minimum grade of C is required in the courses counting for credit for this program. In exceptional circumstances a grade of D may be acceptable with the approval of the Chair of the Department in courses offered through the Faculty of Arts or the Faculty of Business.
Lower-level (1000-2000 level) requirements:
- MATH 1003, MATH 1013, MATH 1503, MATH 2203, MATH 2513, MATH 2523 (see note 2)
- STAT 1793, STAT 2793
- One of CS 1003, CMPE 1003, CS 1063, CS 1073 or CS 2704
- Science requirements (26 ch):
At least 18 ch in lecture courses and at least 8 ch in laboratory courses chosen from:- BIOL 1105 (lecture), BIOL 1205 (lecture), BIOL 1017 (lab)
- CHEM 1041(lecture), CHEM 1046 (lab), CHEM 1072 (lecture), CHEM 1077 (lab)(CHEM 1872/CHEM 1877 (5 ch) can be used to replace CHEM 1072/CHEM 1077 (5 ch).)
- GEOL 1044, GEOL 1074
- PHYS 1011 (lecture), PHYS 1012 (lecture), PHYS 1021(lab), PHYS 1022 (lab). (APSC 1011/APSC 1015 and APSC 1021/APSC 1025 (10 ch) can be used to replace the full PHYS sequence (10 ch).)
NOTE: Geology courses include 2ch of laboratory components in each course.
- An additional 24 ch of approved electives at any level (see note 3)
(Note: MATH 1853 and MATH 2633 cannot be counted for credit towards this program.)
Upper-level (3000-4000 level) requirements:
- MATH 3213, MATH 3713, MATH 3733 (see note 2)
- An additional 12 ch in upper-level MATH courses.
(Note: MATH 3633 cannot be taken for credit.) - STAT 3793, STAT 4203, STAT 4703, STAT 4793 (see note 2)
- An additional 6 ch in upper-level STAT courses.
- MATH 3414 or CS 3113 (or equivalent)
- An additional 9 of ch upper-level (3000-4000 level) approved electives
Notes:
- It is recommended that MATH 2203 is taken in the first or second year.
