I. Bachelor of Education Degree Program
10-Month Bachelor of Education Degree Program
Criteria for Admission
Minimum requirement for admission to the Bachelor of Education Degree Program (BEd) is the successful completion of a f4-year (120 credit- hour) undergraduate degree with teachable subjects from a recognized university. A minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.7 is required (Admission can be highly competitive therefore minimum levels may not be sufficient to secure a spot.)
Elementary/Early Years stream
To be eligible for admission to the BEd Elementary/Early Years stream, applicants must have successfully completed at least 30 credit hours of courses from the following list, covering at least four teachable subject categories including a minimum of three credit hours of English and three credit hours of Math. In addition, students must have completed 18 credit hours in a single teachable subject category from the list provided by New Brunswick Department of Education and Early Childhood Development Teacher Certification.

Secondary/(Middle/Young Adult) stream
To be eligible for admission to the BEd Secondary/(Middle/Young Adult) stream, applicants must have completed at least 30 credit hours in the first teachable area and 18 credit hours in the second teachable area or they must have completed at least 24 credit hours in each of two teachable areas. In addition, applicants must have successfully completed at least 3 credit hours of English.

- Art (Visual Arts, Music)

- English as a second/additional language
(Note: Although NB Teacher Certification has a more extensive list of teachable subject categories, the above list of teachable subject categories corresponds with methods courses and expertise in the Faculty of Education. Applicants with teachable content from the above will be considered for admission to the 10-month BEd program)
In addition to the above lists of required courses, applicants to the elementary or secondary programs must complete an online UNB application by December 15, and include the following supplemental items:
- Official transcript(s) of academic record to date, other than University of New Brunswick transcripts. Applicants must arrange for an official transcript at each university, college, or other post-secondary institution attended to be sent directly to the Admissions Office by the academic records department of the institution. Applicants must also arrange for an official transcript of all grades received after the time of application to be sent directly to the Admissions Office as soon as it becomes available. The Admissions Office cannot accept the applicant's copy of any transcript. Transcripts from a post-secondary institution outside of Canada or the United States must be accompanied with a course-by-course ICAP World Education Services (WES) report.
- Two references (character, and education), submitted directly to the Admissions Office by persons able to comment on the suitability of the applicant for the teaching profession.
- Written statements that include: evidence of experience in teaching, indicating a suitability for and an interest in education; a brief response to how education related experiences and previous academic experiences have prepared them for teaching (300 word max each): two goals for personal or professional growth while in the program (300 word max).
Application packages meeting minimum admissions requirements will be individually assessed by the Faculty of Education’s Admissions Committee and strong applicants will be contacted for an interview. Applicants with successful interviews will be admitted to the BEd program. Please note that admission to the 10-month BEd program is competitive; consequently, meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee a seat in the program.
Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Education (Articulated 4-Year
Degree Program)
Applicants will be required to hold a two year post-secondary education diploma in early childhood education from a recognized community college or learning institution with a minimum GPA of 2.7 and at least 270 hours of practicum placement with children birth to age four. Acceptable two-year diploma programs will allow eligible students to gain direct access to the online degree program at UNB. Applicants from Atlantic Canada are given priority during the admission process.
In addition to the above, applicants must complete the UNB online application by December 15th and include the following supplemental items:
- Official transcript(s) of academic record to date, other than University of New
Brunswick transcripts. Applicants must arrange for an official transcript at each
university, college, or other post-secondary institution attended to be sent directly to the
Admissions Office by the academic records department of the institution. Applicants
must also arrange for an official transcript of all grades received after the time of
application to be sent directly to the Admissions Office as soon as it becomes available.

Wabanaki Bachelor of Education (4-year, Elementary)
Applicants who have graduated from high school or have successfully completed the Wocopsqoltine Weci Spiqiyahtuweq program at UNB are eligible to apply to the Wabanaki BEd program. Students who have partially or fully completed an undergraduate degree are also welcome to apply. Student transcripts are individually assessed for transfer credit. Due to the cohort organization of this program, admission is competitive, and the number of spaces is limited. Priority will be given to Indigenous applicants and applicants with education-related experience.
Applicants must complete a UNB online application and submit the following supplemental items:
- Applicant profile and personal interest form
- Character reference form
- Education reference form
- Official transcripts from high school (if no other post-secondary enrollment) and all post-secondary institutions that the applicant has attended, other than UNB.
Once all documentation is received, qualified applicants will be contacted for an interview.
