Introduces a broad range of violent crimes from sociological perspectives. Includes a survey of political violence such as genocide, the holocaust, state and anti-state terrorism; analysis of hate crimes and various types of homicide such as serial murder, mass murder, and thrill killings; examination of various manifestations of violence against women such as mass and date rape; exploration of kinds of assault such as physical assault, spousal battery, and child abuse; and robbery.
