Topics include the era of the Trojan War and Mycenaean palaces, the origins of the world's first democracy, the Battle of Marathon and the Persian Wars, Percicles and the Athenian Golden Age, the Peloponnesian War and the clash of Athens and Sparta, and the rise of the Macedonian warlords, Phillip and his son Alexander. Special emphasis is placed on the enduring impact Greek history and Greek civilization have had on the modern world.
