This course examines theories of interpersonal, organizational, and mass communications relevant to the health and health-related professions. Students will review theories and contexts from communication, relations of power in communication settings, strategies of persuasion, the relationship between attitudes and behaviour, and the importance of representation in our understanding of changing nature of health, health delivery, and health issues in society. Health ethics and approaches to communicating about health, including ambiguity, privacy, and confidentiality, will be discussed. |
