This course explores ancient variations on an issue facing contemporary society, with special attention paid how the legacies of Greece and Rome continue to shape our world for better and for worse. Possible topics include imperialism and colonialism; democracy, demagogues, and populism; racism and slavery; and mass migration and refugees.
