This course offers students an in-depth understanding of the early development of media industries in Hollywood from its emergence to 1950. Topics include development of Hollywood studios, the standardization of the industry, women in roles of production, the rise of of the star system, the move of national radio companies to Hollywood, the tension and collaborations between film and radio production, and changes in technologies. Open to students who have completed 45 credit hours, or with permission of the instructor. |
