Counselling Services
At Counselling Services, there is a friendly, helpful staff of professional counsellors, as well as a Career Consultant, who helps students use the Career Resource Centre.
All staff maintain strict confidentiality in their dealings with students who make use of Counselling Services.
Counselling Services provides the following:
- Personal Counselling services to help students deal with a wide range of issues that may be bothering them. Examples of personal issues that we can help with include, shyness, self-esteem, assertiveness, anxiety, depression, anger, stress management, consequences of traumatic events, marital and relationship problems, procrastination, concentration, exam anxiety, self-injury, thoughts of suicide, eating issues, alcohol and drug problems, and many others.
- Career Counselling services to help students identify their career goals and provide guidance through the career planning and decision making process. Examples of career guidance we can provide include: choosing a major and identifying potential career paths based on interests, skills, values, and personality types.
- Consultation regarding concerns a friend, staff or faculty member, or other individual may have about a student or situation. Note that no counselling staff person will discuss or release any information about any individual who might be a client of Counselling Services.
Counselling Services is located on the 2nd floor of the C.C. Jones Student Services centre. Services are available free of charge to all full-time and part-time students of UNB and Saint Thomas University. Fall and winter office hours are weekdays: 8:15 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Summer hours are weekdays: 7:45 a.m. - 12:00 noon, and 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. For information or to make an appointment call 453-4820.
