An introduction to the physiology, ecology and biotechnology of micro-organisms. Topics include bacterial structures and their function, metabolic diversity, interactions of bacteria with their environments including their impact on human health, and the exploitation of microbes by industry. Fundamental aspects of viral infection will be introduced with an emphasis on prokaryotic viruses. Limited Enrollment.
