ENGL6783 | Black Feminisms in Literature, Performance, and Theory | 3 ch |
---|---|---|
Examines the critical and artistic traditions of Black feminist thought as they decode the racial-sexual hierarchies making up our prevailing world and imagine alternative worlds that one can experience both in the present and future. Consider the work of foundational Black feminists like Audre Lorde and Angela Davis in relation to both the histories of Black women’s resistance and the contemporary archives of Black queer and feminist artists as they trace the intersections of gender, sexuality, class, ableism, geography, and Blackness. Develop a nuanced understanding of key concepts in Black feminism, including intersectionality, the erotic, and abolition, with a focus on Canadian and American contexts. |
