Covers theories of light, electromagnetic optics, and photon optics, as well as the interaction of light with matter, and the theory of semiconductor materials/devices and their optical properties. Students will be Introduced to new paradigms on the generation of light by luminescence sources such as light-emitting diodes, lasers, the transmission of light through optical components, waveguides, and fibers with an emphasis on their applications In quantum technology. The gained knowledge will be leveraged to design integrated photonic circuits In group projects. This course strengthens skills in (a) photonic technology, (b) semiconductor devices, and (c) general knowledge about quantum technology.
