This course covers advanced aspects of computer architecture with a unifying approach of computer system performance. Topics include design considerations on performance enhancement techniques applicable to instruction cycle, interconnection mechanism, memory (main, cache, etc. and memory management), CPU structure, CPU pipelining, superscalar processors, multiprocessor architectures and parrallel architectures. Course relies heavily in practical implementation of techniques using VHDL and Altera circuit design hardware and software design suite.
