ED6022Developing the Middle School3 ch
This course is intended for experienced teachers and administrators who wish to explore the philosophy behind the Middle School Movement and who want practical strategies to use in changing from a junior high school organizational model to a middle level model. Course content will include a brief history of middle schools, and examination of the characteristics and needs of the early adolescent learner, and a study of the elements of an exemplary middle school. These elements include: school atmosphere, grade configurations, instructional strategies, student-centered orientation, advisor-advisee programs, interdisciplinary teacher teams, and home/community involvement. The course will include a brief look at suggestions for educational change contained in current research literature.
