Education

  • Degrees Offered: MEd, PhD
  • Application Deadline: Varies by program and concentration, see under application requirements.
  • Study Options: Coursework, Project/Report, Thesis, (some MEd concentrations can be completed online). Students can choose to study on a part-time or full-time basis. 
  • Duration: A course-based degree consists of 10 courses; a project/report-based degree consists of eight courses plus a report; and a thesis-based degree consists of five courses plus a thesis. MEd students must complete the degree within five years of their first registration, and PhD students must complete the degree within seven years of their first registration.
  • Entry Terms: Fall, Winter, Summer

Our flexible programs are designed to suit the needs of both full-time students and working professionals, with evening, online and summer courses that are designed to allow learners to fulfil their own needs, interests, and aspirations. Students can choose to study full- or part-time.

With the exception of Counselling and special cohorts, most MEd courses will be delivered online.

Application requirements

  1. Application deadlines vary depending on concentration. Late applications will not be accepted. 
    • PhD Education Studies = Dec. 1
    • Exceptional Learners, Counselling = Dec. 1
    • Educational Administration & Leadership, Adult Education, Critical Studies and Curriculum & Instruction = Dec. 1, July 31
  2. MEd applicants must hold a relevant undergraduate degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (B), and at least one year of relevant teaching or related professional experience.
  3. Applicants must submit:
    • A completed online application
    • Letter of interest
    • Up-to-date resumé
    • Three reference letters (academic references are preferred, particularly if other degrees were recent)
    • Official transcripts (copied or opened transcripts are not official)
    • Evidence of a minimum 1-3 years of relevant experience (depending on the concentration)
  4. International applicants whose first language is not English must submit language scores that meet or exceed: International English language testing system (IELTS) = band 7 in all categories.
