(a) Terms of Reference

 Passed by Faculty Council on October 30, 1991. Report (for information) received by UNB Senate (Dec. 3, 1991)

The Standing Advisory Committee on Intercollegiate Athletics will advise the Council of the Faculty of Kinesiology on all matters pertinent to Intercollegiate Athletics at te University of New Brunswick, Fredericton Campus. Without limiting the generality of the above, the committee shall:

  1. advice Faculty Council on the acquisition and deployment of financial resources and physical facilities in meeting the program's mission:
  2. advisory Faculty Council on significant policy issues to be discussed at AUAA and CIAU meetings.

(b) Composition

  1. This Committee is designed to represent the major constituents of the Intercollegiate Athletic Program. In the appointment of members of the Standing Committee on Intercollegiate Athletics it should be assured were possible that members, other than ex-officio members, serve for limited terms (typically two years) and that the terms be staggered. Further, where possible, the Committee should consist of an equal number of male and female voting members.

    The Standing Advisory Committee on Intercollegiate Athletics shall be composed of:

    Nine students (9), at least one of which must be a graduate student, appointed as follows:
    Three (3) female students who are each bona fide members of different varsity intercollegiate athletic teams. (The Intercollegiate Athletic Director will convene a committee consisting of one representative of each female varsity intercollegiate team to elect the three student-athletes.) 

    Three (3) male students who are each bona fide members of different varsity intercollegiate athletic teams. (The Intercollegiate Athletic Director will convene a committee consisting of one representative of each male varsity intercollegiate team to elect the three student-athletes.)

    Two (2) students, one male, one female to be appointed by the University Student's Union
    One (1) student, to be appointed by the Faculty of Kinesiology Student Society.
  2. Nine (9) non-student members appointed as follows:
    One (1) member appointed by Senate.
    One (1) member appointed by the Board of Governors.
    Two (2) members appointed by the Council of the Faculty of Kinesiology, at least one of whom will be a varsity coach.
    One (1) member appointed by the UNB associated Alumni.
    One (1) member appointed by the UNB Athletic Club.
    One (1) member appointed by the New Brunswick Governmental Department associated with High Performance Sport.
    One (1) member appointed by the Fredericton Chamber of Commerce.
  3. The President of designate, ex-officio.
  4. The Intercollegiate Athletic Director, ex officio, who shall be Secretary of the Committee.
  5. The Dean of the Faculty Kinesiology, ex-officio, who shall be chair.
