Support Operators

Classroom Technology & Services staffs a limited number of trained student operators that can assist with UNBF events, conference, and presentations.  The primary role of the Student Operator is to assist the full-time Classroom Support Specialists.  They are required to learn and use the various booking systems and complete requests of their clients.  They enthusiastically follow instructions and complete these tasks in an efficient timeframe.  The work location can vary, from the main office in Marshall d'Avray, classroom settings all over campus, and upon occasion off-campus for special events.  These students have been trained in the use of audio-visual and multimedia equipment, specifically with our classroom technology infrastructure and videoconferencing.  The availabilities of these students is subject to their personal schedules, so please book well in advance to ensure we can accommodate your request.  If a student operator is not available, a full-time staff member may elect to fulfill the request based on their availability and interest.

The standard hourly rate for all operators is $20/hr.

Off-campus pickup/delivery charge is $25 per request.

If Gap tape is required there is a minimum $10 charge to a maximum of $40, depending on requirements.

Support Operators will be paid through CETL, with a charge-back to your Faculty or Departmental account (or external event).  Please note that there is a 2 hour minimum on all Student Operators.  Confirmation from Classroom Support is required before any student operator is scheduled.

List of Duties

  • Assist Faculty, Staff, Students, and the general public with audio-visual support issues, via phone, email and in person.
  • Take reservations at the counter, phone and email and enter those requests into a booking system.
  • Set up and take down equipment for classroom and specialists events.
  • Respond to emergency calls from the classroom in a friendly, polite and efficient manner.
  • Maintain the after hours classroom support service.
  • Ensures that the office in d'Avray is well organized and set for the following days deliveries.
  • Additional after-hours or weekend events will be offered in an order of seniority, experience, and availability.\

Important: Unforseen technical failures can occur.  In these cases, equipment may need to be repaired or replaced.  We currently do not provide technical repair outside of normal working hours.  As such, our support operators may not be able to resolve every issue or failure.  They will attempt an alternative arrangement to ensure your event continues (e.g. a portable projector and screen).
