Julien Albert (BBA ’74)

Julien AlbertPresident, NorthTaste Flavourings Inc.
President, St. Laurent Gulf Products Ltd.
President, Johnson Moving & Storage Group of Companies

Julien Albert began his University of New Brunswick academic career as a Mechanical Engineering major before realizing he had an aptitude for business and transferred to the BBA program. He then pushed himself to complete the remainder of his degree in just two years, graduating with his BBA in 1974.

A native of Caraquet, N.B., Julien worked in the banking industry with RoyNat for almost two decades. He began in Moncton, NB, then moved to St. John’s and then to Edmonton opening and managing an office in Red Deer before finishing his career at the Calgary District/Regional offices.

During his 13 years in Alberta, Julien started his entrepreneurial drive with the construction and operation of the first fully serviced fishmarket in Edmonton, complete with a 2000-pound self-contained lobster pound. The Eastwharf Maritime Fishmarket became part of the largest seafood distributor in Alberta, Billingsgate Fish Market. A three-year stint operating a medium sized oil patch drilling company would provide guidance in the start-up and operation of an oilfield equipment painting company and small fab shop.

In 1989, Julien returned to New Brunswick to acquire and operate Johnson Moving & Storage Group of Companies (Allied Van Lines & North American Van lines). Under his guidance Johnson Moving & Storage expanded and grew significantly in northern New Brunswick. Quality, Booking and Performance awards became the hallmark for the company. Today, company continues to move families all over the world and is a key service provider to global miner Glencore.

At the same time, Julien developed several seafood-based companies. In particular, St. Laurent Halibut was designed using his drilling skills to provide pure salt water accessed from a delineation well beneath the Bay of Chaleur. The land based grow out facility was the first of its kind in New Brunswick to raise live halibut and has become a model for other aquaculture locations in Atlantic Canada.

Julien is also President of St. Laurent Gulf Products Ltd (ABC Fishmeal) of Caraquet, which specializes in high protein fish and crustacean meals, fish oils and is a pioneer in developing dried crab and lobster shells for China’s chitin/chitosan industry.
