Course Description:

This course is the online version of BIOL 1782.  The course is an introduction to the various systems that comprise the human body. Emphasis will be on integration of these systems for maintenance of homeostasis.


Mandatory prerequisite: BIOL 1711 or 1719.

Course Features:

Lectures are delivered using provided slides and full-length recorded lectures. Laboratories and all assessments are completed online featuring practice quizzes, videos, and E-book.

Recorded lectures and tutorials provide the classroom experience but with complete flexibility in schedule and the added benefit of being able to watch them repeatedly

Course software provides multiple ways to study, whether through the E-book, recorded lectures or practice questions

Simulated labs include simulated clinical assessments and clinical cases help students integrate and apply the information learned in lecture

Course Format: Course includes 8 modules and labs, which will cover all organ systems. Students complete the lecture portion of the course by accessing the slides, watching the recorded lectures and completing the timed open book quizzes.
The lab portion is of the course is completed by using the provided lab software and submitting lab reports electronically
Course Texts: Human Physiology: The Mechanisms of Body Function. Vander’s 13th Edition including Connect and LearnSmart Labs software
Assignments & Examinations:
8 Lecture based quizzes 10% (1.25% each)
8 Lab reports 20% (2.5% each)
Midterm exam (online, invigilated)
Day and time determined by student.
Final exam (online, invigilated)
Day and time determined by student.

All mid-term exams and final exams for online courses will be invigilated at an approved time and location. Please refer to the Online Exam Request Form to book.

Time Limit: Six months from the registration date. All course exams and/or assignments must be completed by your designated end date.

Online courses are subject to an additional $100 non-refundable online fee per course. Fees are subject to change by the Board of Governors.
